Data: it’s seen as the new gold for the coming decades. The ability to use advanced data analysis to gain clearer commercial insights, improve our customer journeys and take better strategic decisions. ABN AMRO is increasingly becoming a data-driven organisation - and we want to stay that way.

Our Data Talent Programme

The ABN AMRO Data Talent Programme offers you a substantively challenging position in which you combine your work with education and training for 18 months. In the first six weeks you will start with a data bootcamp, where you will work on your hard and soft skills with your fellow trainees. Immediately afterwards, you will start at your department in a fixed position where you will work on your own activities and assignments, with the help of your manager and colleagues. Next to your work, you also participate in the personal development programme Boost Your Growth.

Please note this is not a traineeship with different rotations throughout the organisation. When you apply for the Data Talent Programme, you will apply for a position and be placed at a business line during the recruitment process.

Starter positions

We are hiring Data Analysts, Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers. For this talent programme you can start at different business lines. Where you will start depends on the vacancy you apply for and the availability at the business line. Please read this information carefully. When you apply for a position, please mention in your cover letter which business line or department has your preference.

Data Analyst
As an Data Analyst, you speak both the language of the data and business. When considering a question from the business, you consider which IT solution(s) are possible. For the data analyst position, you can start at Retail Banking, Commercial Banking or Corporate & Institutional Banking

  • Retail Banking

    As a Data Analyst working in retail, you may be asked to develop predictive models to identify customers likely to fall behind with their repayments so that we can help them as soon as possible. This includes ensuring data quality and gathering data throughout the organisation so you can work your magic on it afterwards. You could also devise models to identify customers who are likely to respond positively to a marketing campaign and develop models and simulations aimed at optimising the effectiveness of our Google ads. You could also be analysing the performance of a vast product catalogue (current accounts & payment products, savings & deposits, consumer loans, insurances, pension products) for 4.5 million customers.

  • Commercial Banking

    As an analyst working in Commercial Banking, you could be asked to join projects and analyse customer or product characteristics in relation to these projects. Projects in Commercial Banking have a wide variety of topics, you could be asked to help rationalize products, construct marketing campaigns, analyse customer satisfaction or create insights in the domain of regulatory activity. You will be working closely together with the team of analysts and scientists as well as with the other project members.

    Data Scientist
    As a Data Scientist, you translate the business challenges into technical predictive models that support better decision making. For the data scientist role, you can start in the business line Human Resources & Transformation, Innovation & Technology, Detecting Financial Crime or Private Banking.

  • Human Resources & Transformation

    You will be working as an HR analytical consultant in a dynamic, energetic team of professionals who all are critical thinkers and share the same passion: helping HR to become more fact-based. You will focus on high-impact cases that are on top of our business agenda. Examples are building models on predicting business performance and client satisfaction or for instance identifying the characteristics of our top performers. You will join a team that is seen inside and outside the bank as a front runner in people analytics. And we are ambitious to stay ahead of our peers. We offer an exciting and dynamic work environment with many opportunities for innovation. We offer space for personal development and also encourage co-working on other HR analytics products like survey management and strategic workforce planning.

  • Innovation & Technology

    Wondering how the broad scope of Innovation & Technology (I&T) looks like? To start with, I&T delivers all the technology for a future proof bank, including the high end technology we need to serve our clients in a more and more data driven world. A very crucial element is to invent and deploy the smartest data models to keep our digital bank safe. Next to delivering and maintaining our digital infrastructure, apps and websites, I&T is responsible for flawless processing of all our client transactions. Therefore, smart use of data is essential to serve our clients faster, better and be more pro-active. Beyond that, we have an innovative mindset and use data to create new business models. And last but not least, I&T is responsible for sustainable contracts with our partners and for creating a modern working environment. So we do not only use our data for the best client experience, but also for the best employee experience!

  • Detecting Financial Crime

    The Detecting Financial Crime – Data Science Innovation Team is one of the largest and fastest growing data science teams within ABN AMRO. We are working on smart solutions to detect financial crime, including money laundering, terrorist financing and human trafficking. Criminals are never resting and all the time come up with new ways to stay out of sight, so we need to continuously adapt and innovate to beat them to it. Our work is in the full lime lights, from the senior management of the bank, the national regulators such as DNB, as well as from society as a whole. This illustrates the important role that we play as gatekeeper of the financial system. The work that we do forms the core of that.

  • Private Banking

    The Centre of Expertise Marketing, Data & Analytics (MDA) within Private Banking consists of a group of highly skilled professionals in their field, that is responsible for enticing our (potential) affluent clients to make full use of our private banking services and allowing them to experience a positive customer experience for a lasting loyal clients relationship. This is achieved through the development of attractive value propositions, the creation of optimal customer journeys and pro-active relevant expert advice & content. We strive towards meaningful dialogues with our affluent clients and therefore have the ambition to further facilitate personalisation through all channels. Advanced Analytics & Data is an indispensable capability that Private Banking will fully develop in the coming years.



    Machine Learning Engineer

    As a Machine Learning Engineer, you are responsible for the models that data scientists developed and integrate those with the dedicated platforms and applications. For the Machine Learning Engineer role, you can start at Innovation & Technology or Mortgages DataLab (part of Retail Banking).

  • Mortgages DataLab

    As the name of the team implies, our primary focus is on mortgages, both from a business and a customer perspective. We are an integral part of the Data & Analytics department within Mortgages, and with a mix of data scientists and machine learning engineers, we are able to handle the full data science funnel, from ideation & exploration to production and maintenance. Examples of our projects are: forecasting the workload in the mid office, customer profiling for churn and a model to predict mortgage default so that we can reach out to customers before issues become problems. In addition, we are investigation the possibilities for an instant mortgage, where you can get your mortgage hassle-free based on your (psd2) transaction data.

    Your Personal Development Programme - Boost Your Growth

    You want to know how to make your work meaningful, how to work effectively and create innovation. In a unique collaboration with The School of Life we have developed the personal development programme Boost Your Growth, where you as a talent are challenged to get a better picture of who you are, how you can use your talent for the benefit of society and ABN AMRO. After you have landed at ABN AMRO, you start in a team consisting of different trainees of the bank and will learn the tricks of the Agile Way of Working. In one year, you and your scrum team will discuss themes in which you, the world, culture and impact are central. In addition, you work together on a business-related team assignment. You decide which boosters - workshops and talks - you will follow. In addition, you will explore the bank's strategy in various ways. It's up to you!
