Associate Corporate Lending (f/m)

Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) has a client base of approximately 3,000. In the Netherlands, we serve clients with revenues exceeding EUR 250 million. In Northwest Europe (France, Germany, United Kingdom and Belgium), we serve clients in a variety of sectors with revenues exceeding EUR 100 million. We are globally active in 13 countries. We are sector-led, offering a wide range of services and products in global markets and lending and have specialized departments in Clearing and Trade & Commodity Finance.

Structured Finance & Portfolio Management (SF&PM) is the Lending product unit of CIB. All Lending products and expertise are clustered in SF&PM, with the exception of the specialties Trade & Commodity Finance and Clearing. SF&PM is responsible for the structuring of a variety of lending products for all sectors and segments. These activities are executed in the following departments: Lending, Structured Finance Origination, Central Portfolio Management, Infrastructure & Fund Management, and PE activities.

Lending provides (structured) lending products to new and existing large corporate clients domestically and internationally. Lending can be split into (i) Corporate Lending Europe, (ii) Lending NR/GTL including APAC and US and (iii) Specialised Lending. Corporate Lending Europe consists of specific Sector Teams including (i) Food, Retail, TMT, Leisure and Business Services (ii) Industries, Automotive, Logistics EU, Utilities, Construction and Real Estate, and the multi sector Execution Team.

In close collaboration with other product-teams of SF&PM and Risk Management, Lending is responsible for resolving complex tailor-made and bilateral- and syndicated financing issues of clients and is the ‘first-line of defence’ in the assessment credit risk based on (credit) experience and specific client- and sector knowledge. After obtaining credit risk approval from Risk Management, Lending negotiates the credit documentation with the client. In addition, Lending is responsible for monitoring the existing portfolio of (debt) transactions and the execution of imminent deals, including coordination with external advisors (legal, technical, insurance, markets).

Your job

Within Lending, two types of teams can be distinguished: (i) Sector Teams and (ii) the Execution Team. As a Lender in the Execution Team you will work closely with Lenders in the Sector Teams on a flexible and pre-dominantly sector agnostic basis. Collectively all Lenders have a shared responsibility for the credit relationship and management of the portfolio of European clients within SF & PM. This includes the structuring of complex tailor-made and bilateral financing solutions, advising, selling various lending products to new- and existing clients also in close collaboration with Client Coverage, Structured Finance, Global Markets, Risk Management etc.

As a Associate in the Execution Team you will work in close cooperation with Sector Lenders and your Execution Team members in managing the portfolio of Corporate Lending Europe. You can be part of Client Service Teams (CST) which are multiple product teams that are managed by the coverage banker to tackle client questions and develop commercial propositions. Together with Lenders from the Sector Lending teams, you will be involved in the origination and execution of deals including pitching to clients, writing credit applications, structuring transactions, reviewing and negotiating credit documentation, and coordination with external advisors (legal, technical, insurance, markets). In addition, the function includes the monitoring of the existing portfolio of (debt) transactions and contribution to internal projects in the areas of process optimization and innovation of the credit chain, regulatory developments and requests, sector deep dives, risk management projects, and organisation wide initiatives.

Working environment

You will be working with ~25 professionals working within Corporate Lending Europe covering ~250 clients. We work closely together ensuring that our portfolio has a balanced credit profile and grows in a sustainable way. We ensure our clients are serviced optimally within set internal/external parameters. Part of your job is to coach and develop Team members including trainees and interns.

You shall be working in Amsterdam. We work in an open floor space on the Gustav Mahlerlaan, where we have all stakeholders in our vicinity (Coverage, Risk, Products, Sustainability etc).

Your profile

We are looking for an finance specialist with former client facing, risk management experience, or credit structuring experience. Check your profile:

  • Educated university level.
  • Up to 3 years of experience in a client facing or risk management type of role.
  • Strong knowledge of international credit process (incl. credit application/processing/ monitoring).
  • Strong knowledge of specific market(s) and general credit market in which he/she is active.
  • Solid knowledge of ICT applications which support the commercial process.
  • Solid knowledge and experience of project /stakeholder management processes.
  • Good understanding of bilateral loans and documentation, average understanding of syndicated loan
  • Experienced with medium- to high intensity clients and prospects, preferably with (international) large corporates and/or international clients.
  • Basic knowledge of financial statements/tax/legal/documentation/insurance/technical.
  • Excellent in speaking, writing and reading of English and preferably control multiple other languages.
