Director Project Finance - Portfolio Management

At a glance

Director Project Finance – Portfolio Management (Amsterdam)

Structured Finance & Portfolio Management (SF&PM) is the Lending product unit of CIB. All Lending products and expertise are clustered in SF&PM, with the exception of the specialities Trade & Commodity Finance and Clearing. SF&PM is responsible for the structuring of a variety of lending products for all sectors and segments. These activities are executed in the following departments: Lending, Structured Finance Origination (including Loan Origination, Leveraged Finance, Export Finance, Project Finance), Central Portfolio Management, Infrastructure & Fund Management, and PE activities.

Within Project Finance we arrange structured debt financing for long-term projects and infrastructure type financing. Our team has a strong focus on supporting the energy transition and digitalization of society. We finance renewable energy projects (such as offshore and onshore wind, solar, energy from waste, energy storage) and digital infrastructure projects (such as datacentres and fibre networks). Our Project Finance team has further built an extensive track record in logistic infrastructure. We operate across EMEA out of our offices in Amsterdam and London.

The Project Finance team is also responsible for the portfolio management of Project Finance Transactions for CIB clients (currently ~45 clients with EUR 1.5bln of drawn exposure). Also given the steady growth of the Project Finance book, portfolio management has become increasingly more important for the team and the bank as a whole, where house in order and licence to operate are crucial for a sustainable growth of the product and locking in future deal flow for the team.

Your job

As a Director within the Project Finance Portfolio Management unit you are responsible for building and maintaining strong, sustainable, long-term relationships with clients within the Project Finance portfolio and provide assurance of house in order and licence to operate. Furthermore, you are responsible for the management of the existing portfolio of transactions, including monitoring and management of risks as well as reporting on the portfolio (to regulator, Watch status and dynamic monitoring) and managing the administration (handled by dedicated mid-office professionals). In addition, the position includes contribution to origination and execution of new transactions (including refinancings of transactions of our existing portfolio) and where relevant contribution to internal projects such as optimization or innovation projects, regulatory driven projects and other organization-wide initiatives.

You will have the unique opportunity to help to set up a team of dedicated Portfolio Managers within the Project Finance team, which will build up responsibility for the portfolio as a whole and per client/transaction typically work as part of a dedicated deal team tailored to the case at hand. In close cooperation with the syndicate team you further actively support the ‘originate to distribute’ strategy of CIB, by supporting the distribution of debt exposures to third parties. You will further be part of Client Service Teams (CST), managed by the Coverage Banker to develop the broad commercial relationship with clients. Part of your job is also to develop a more data driven part of portfolio analysis and monitoring in cooperation with stakeholders such as Central Portfolio Management, Risk and Finance and last but not least, your job is to coach and develop the more junior staff in the team and to take them along in the entire journey and life cycle of the Project Finance portfolio.
