Relationship Associate

At a glance

The Relationship Associate (RA) reports to the Head of Sales of AAL. Day to day task prioritisation will be set by the Specialist Asset Finance Team.

Your job

Reports directly to the Head of Sales and supports the Relationship Directors (RD’s) in the Specialist Asset Finance Team (SAF).  The SAF RD’s will determine the day to day priorities and oversee day to day activities.


The RA is responsible for key aspects of facilitation and execution including (but not limited to) first-stage analysing of prospective customers, existing customers and Asset Finance transactions.


They will be involved in all stages of an asset finance transaction, from origination, planning, risk analysis and credit approval, through to transaction pricing/structuring, legal negotiation and deal execution. This will require presence in meetings, both customer facing and internally with relevant stakeholders. The ability to build rapport, manage stakeholder relationships, strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and multi-tasking/prioritisation of workload are considered to be core skills and essential for the role.


The RA role has high potential and the holder will have the opportunity to grow into the role of a Relationship Director within the SAF team.

The RA will be a member of the SAF team and is responsible for:-


- Partnering with SAF RD’s to deliver solutions for customers
- Working with and providing assistance to SAF RD’s to structure, negotiate and propose new funding requests.
- Obtaining all necessary financial statements and transaction information in order to create and analyse funding requests.
- Preparing financial spreads and risk rating score cards
- Conducting company, industry and market analysis to further assess customer credit quality
- Working with and supporting SAF RD’s to maintain service levels during absences
- Supporting and assisting wider UK team as workload dictates
- Acting as a day to day relationship manager/contact for some relationships
- Maintaining the relationship with all relevant stakeholders within AAL and ABN AMRO Bank (portfolio management)
- Analysing and presenting financial and non-financial risks, translating this into optimal credit structures for customers
- Completing other duties and special projects as assigned

Your profile
  • Interest in a career in financial services
  • Ideally degree educated
  • Relevant Finance / Banking / Asset Finance qualification would be viewed positively, but is not essential
  • Proven financial industry working experiences
  • Ability to interpret financial statements
  • Advanced understanding of financial ratios and business values and strong analytical skills with an ability to question assumptions
  • Highly motivated and aspiring, with high energy levels and ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively
  • Eagerness to learn and self-develop
  • Compelled to find solutions and can-do mentality
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and willing to go the extra mile
