UK Head of Tax

At a glance

The UK Head of Tax reports to the UK CFO and also has a functional reporting line to Group Tax in the Netherlands.

 

•    The responsibilities of UK tax are broad due to the UK housing multiple, varied business lines and ABN AMRO UK being part of a wider international group;
•    The UK tax function has responsibility for advising all UK business lines on all tax related matters including corporation tax, VAT, stamp duty, transfer pricing, payroll taxes, banking taxes and operational taxes 

 

Your job

The main objective of the UK tax function is to ensure that ABN AMRO UK discharges its responsibilities towards internal and external stakeholders in an efficient and effective manner for all tax related matters.

 

•    Assess and manage tax risk enherent in ABN AMRO UK, ensuring that tax risks and exposures are detected, reported and remedied in a timely manner and that tax risk is fully integrated within the overall risk management framework of the bank 
•    Advise and assist the UK business lines and support functions in all tax related matters
•    Advise on structural changes including new business lines and products
•    Build relationships with UK business lines and strengthen business knowledge (banking, lease, commercial finance)
•    Ensure that the UK’s tax processes and procedures reflect changes to legislation, internal policy and changes to ABN AMRO’s UK business
•    Ensure that ABN AMRO UK operates in a tax efficient manner and in line with the Group’s tax risk appetite
•    Ensure that all UK tax compliance responsibilities are carried out in an efficient and timely manner
•    Ensure quarterly financial reporting of UK group entities’ tax figures is complete and correct
•    Prepare / review tax disclosures within UK financial statements
•    Ensure effective use of external advisors
•    Liaise with overseas colleagues on cross border issues and quarterly financial reporting 
•    Review/assess client structures to ensure these are within our risk appetite  
•    Maintain the relationship with HM Revenue & Customs
•    Promote tax awareness within business lines

ABN AMRO UK is part of the Corporate Banking business line and operates the following businesses in the UK:


•    Corporate and Institutional Banking which includes Corporate Banking, Clearing, Global Markets - Sales & Trading and Financial Institutions 
•    Commercial Banking which includes Asset Based Finance and International Desk, which provides transactional banking services

 

Our business lines are supported by a number of functions such as Risk, Compliance, Legal, IT, Finance (Including Tax), Business Management and Human Resources. We currently employ approx. 380 people in the UK.

 

Your profile

•    ACA or CTA qualified tax professional
•    Broad and in depth knowledge of UK tax in a financial services environment gained either within industry or practice (preferably Big 4)
•    Experience of operating within an international group
•    Strong knowledge of VAT within a capital markets environment is desirable
•    Demonstrable experience of managing a wide range of stakeholders, including external relationships such as HMRC
•    Demonstrable experience of building or improving a tax function
•    A good knowledge of the implications of cross border trading and activities including transfer pricing, thin cap, in-pat/ex-pat issues and WHT
•    Strong management and organisational skills 
•    Leadership and team management skills
